How We Work

One of our expert and caring physicians will personally evaluate every patient that is referred to us. Rheumatic diseases are often diagnostically challenging and may present with symptoms affecting any and every organ system in the body. Often a diagnosis can be suggested by a seemingly insignificant past symptom, a detail of family history or a subtle non-articular finding on physical examination. As a result, it is vital to an accurate diagnosis that the initial history and physical be comprehensive. Our patients frequently remark on the thoroughness of this initial evaluation. We take the time and attention necessary to reach that important initial diagnostic impression.

An educated, informed patient is vital to the success of treatment for the many chronic illnesses that we treat. CCAO’s providers take the time to explain patients’ diagnoses to them, answer their questions and include them as a vital part of all treatment decisions. The last decade has seen unprecedented advances in the ability to treat many autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. But with these treatment advances come issues such as possible medication side effects and economic considerations. Our physicians, nursing staff and non-clinical staff work together with the patient as a team to reach a treatment plan that allows each patient to benefit from the tremendous advances in the treatment of immune-mediated diseases while at the same time respecting the individual patient’s values and preferences.
